Mini Banned Books Tutorial

Banned Books Week was 2 weeks ago, and to celebrate I made mini banned books. I was working with a small group and needed something eye-catching, but a little simpler than the properly bound mini books that I found on other tutorials. Once you've made your book(s) you can attach them to keychains, earrings, a necklace, or even make a whole charm bracelet.

Mini Banned Books Tutorial

Supplies: Construction Paper (2” x 2¾“) Cardboard (1½” x 2 ¼“) End Page (2” x 1¼“) Pages (1” x 1½” x ⅛“) (I cut stacks of about 33 mini pages) Cover Image Jump Ring (Optional) Keychain (Optional)

Tools: Glue Stick Scissors Pliers (Optional) Directions:

1. Glue cardboard to center of Construction Paper.

2. Cut off corners of Construction Paper.

3. Fold down and glue edges of Construction Paper over Cardboard.

4. Glue End Page to center of Inner Book Cover.

5. Apply glue to spine of Pages.

6. Wrap Cover around Pages and glue Pages into spine of Cover. (This is the fiddly bit.)

7. Glue Cover Image to Front of Book.

8. Clamp book shut with paper clip.

Optional – Add Keychain

1. CAREFULLY poke hole in spine with needle.

2. CAREFULLY widen hole by spinning it around.

3. Open jump ring with pliers.

4. Poke jump ring through hole of book and end of keychain.

5. Close jump ring with pliers.
