Necessity is the mother of invention.
While strolling the aisles of Michael's, I come across this fabulous octopus pendant. I knew it would make a gorgeous ocean necklace. Taking the rich green eyes as inspiration, I looked at the strung beads to find some that would accent the octopus. I was immediately drawn to some glass beads with a blue-green hue that evoked the ocean.
Unfortunately, I did not consider appropriate findings while shopping. I returned home to begin on my project only to discover that I did not have any antique gold clasps - only silver and copper. However, I did have an extra long chain in antique gold. Suddenly the idea of a multi-strand necklace with a contrasting chain was filling my mind; hence my earlier comment about necessity and invention.
Construction went as smoothly as the design process. I anchored my thread to my chain and began stringing beads. The bail was large enough to accommodate the beads and chain, so I was able to leave that loose and not worry about centering the pendant between beads as it can slide freely on both.
